Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering (MMHE) once again accomplished another milestone with the successful completion of the forth self erecting drilling tender barge for Seadrill Asia Limited. The newly completed drilling tender barge was officially named “Seadrill T12” by Mrs. Anchulee Gunavibool, wife of His Excellency Mr. Nopadol Gunavibool, Ambassador of Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore on 25 February 2010 at MMHE.
The Guest of Honour, His Excellency Mr. Nopadol Gunavibool in his speech said that developing Thailand’s natural resource is critical to the future of Thailand and the region. As the world economy is recovering from recession, finding and developing domestic gas reserves is crucial for the Thai economy and its people. The T-12 will play an essential part in meeting these goals. As demand for natural gas increases, the number of wells will increase and the efficiency and safety of drilling are of utmost importance. And this is where the Seadrill T-12 will play an important role. The T12 Drilling Tender Barge will be operational in Thailand together with T3. She will be the second Seadrill drilling rig currently working in the Gulf of Thailand for the PTTEP.
Mr. Alf Ragnar Løvdal Managing Director/ Senior Vice President Seadrill Tender Rigs said, “I would like to thank MMHE Project Management Team for the excellent co-operation and your good understanding of the goals and willingness to find solutions.” He singled out Mr Lokman Jalil, MMHE T-12 Project Manager, as the key player in keeping the team focused on the project. He also added that the planning, execution and construction of T-12 has improved since the construction of T9 and thanked all involved for their focused and efficient project management.
He mentioned that with the repeat order of the drilling unit is certainly regarded as a sign of confidence and a strong commitment to MMHE and he said “We are very well satisfied with MMHE’s performance and quality of work”.
Meanwhile MD/CEO MMHE, Mr. Wan Yusoff Wan Hamat thanked Seadrill for the trust throughout these years and added that “MMHE with its integrated capabilities can provide competitive solutions for the drilling services market, from repair to conversion and to new build. Our aspiration is to be the reliable service provider and partner of choice".
MMHE was awarded the T12 construction contract on 17 March 2008 and marked MMHE's 8th business cooperation with Seadrill. MMHE first business venture with Seadrill began in 1998 when it was awarded the jumboisation work on the Robray T6. Since then MMHE was given another jumboisation project on T4, upgrading work for T3 and T2 and followed by three new buildings T9, T10 and T11. MMHE was recently awarded another barge T8 by Seadrill for an upgrading work.
